I have applied for a shop at 1000markets.com. After I have everything up and running and have checked out everything, I will be posting a etsy vs. 1000markets review. I know many artists that sell their work online like having the exposure of being on more than one site. I’m just looking for the one that will work best for me. We will see how it goes. First impressions of 1000 markets is it has a more professional feel. I can’t say yet if that is good or bad.

I’m going to be updating and adding new things to my Amazon.com affiliate shop. What kinds of books would you like to see there? There are a ton of tarot decks there now. I love shopping for tarot decks. lol. I will add books that I have read and liked. I really would like to know what you would like to see there.

One of the most asked questions from jewelry makers is about writing jewelry listings. Describing the physical attributes of your finished jewelry piece isn’t hard, conveying the essence and emotions of a piece is. Think about how you want your customer to feel when they see and wear the jewelry. Buying jewelry is an emotional process. People buy jewelry because it makes them feel pretty or reminds them of someone or something they love. When writing you jewelry description try to evoke emotion.
Telling your customer about what inspired you to create the piece can also build a connection. On a web page a customer can’t see how your face lights up when tell them about how you made a piece. The words you choose have to do all the work for you. How many different ways are there to say something is green?
What does the piece remind you of? A soft summer breeze or maybe starlit night sky? Using bits of description like that can help to transport your customer to another place. Maybe they love the ocean but live to far away to travel there. Your jewelry could be the perfect reminder of a beach side vacation they had once. Create connections in as many ways as you can.
Tell your customer about anything that is unique or special about the finished jewelry or what it is made out of. Is it reclaimed, recycled, handcrafted, hard to find? If you use hand blown glass beads or found a cool rock while hiking in the woods, share that with your customer. Take your time and be as descriptive as you can.
Not all jewelry makers like to write out big long descriptions, that’s ok. They don’t have to be long, just as long as you get across all the information you need to.
